Visibility

AI brand visibility: what AI says about your brand, and whether buyers agree

Visibility asks AI assistants the questions your buyers ask, records which brands are named and how they are described, and reads it against what buyers think in the panel. Part of Brand Signal.

Which skincare brand is best for sensitive skin? ChatGPT: Most answers name Northwind first, then Nova, described as the cheaper option. Northwind 34%, Solace 27%, Nova 31% How does Gemini describe Nova? Gemini: Affordable and easy to find. Rarely named for gentle ingredients. Panel · Seen as gentle: 18%, −23 vs Northwind, the category leader Is that changing? Gemini: Nova now appears in 3 of 10 answers, up from 1 of 10 in the spring. Northwind 60%, Nova 30%

What AI brand visibility is

AI brand visibility, also called AI brand monitoring, is how often, and in what terms, a brand appears when AI assistants answer questions about its category. Visibility records your AI brand mentions: whether each brand is named, how it is described and which sources the answer leans on, for you and every competitor you track.

It covers ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot and Google's AI Mode and AI Overviews. When a buyer asks which brands to consider, the answer is a short list and a description: positioning, written by someone else.

Unlike social listening, it measures what AI systems say, not what people post. In Brand Signal it is a supporting signal, read against what buyers think in the panel.

Why it matters for the brand, not only for search

AI names a short consideration set
An assistant answering a category question lists a few brands, not a page of results. Being left off the list is a consideration problem.
AI writes a third-party version of your positioning
The description an assistant gives is built from sources you do not control. It can match the position you are building, or contradict it.
It changes without notice
Models and their sources update quietly. Without a recurring read, a shift in how AI describes you goes unseen until a buyer repeats it.

How AI visibility data is collected

From the questions buyers ask AI to a share you can read against the panel.

1. Prompt design

Prompts are built from your tracker's competitor set, for each market and in each market's language, so AI is asked what buyers there would ask.

2. Answer collection

The same prompts go to each assistant's default model, the one buyers get, on a fixed schedule and in the same way. Every answer is kept, so one reply never stands in for the whole picture.

3. Answer reading

Each answer is read for which brands are named, how each is described and which sources are cited. Every mention is scored for sentiment and tone.

4. Share of Visibility

Mentions are aggregated into Share of Visibility against the competitors you track in the panel, the same brands in every source.

5. Read against the panel

Answers are kept period by period and read next to the panel for the same brands and market. A gap between the two is a finding, not a mismatch in definitions.

What AI says, next to what buyers think

One beauty brand in Sweden, September 2026: buyers call it innovative, AI rarely does.

Innovative · Beauty, Sweden. Illustrative. What buyers think: 28.4%, Rank 7 of 81. Share of buyers in the panel who see the brand as innovative. What AI says: ChatGPT: 12.1%; Gemini: 6.3%. Share of answers that tag the brand innovative. A position buyers already hold and AI only partly passes on. The two reads are measured differently, so the point is direction, not size.

ChatGPT: 12.1%. Share of answers that tag the brand innovative.

Where Visibility sits in Brand Signal

Visibility is a supporting signal in Brand Signal, read against Perception, the representative panel. Every source uses the same competitor set, every brand people choose between, so what AI says can be compared with what buyers think, brand by brand. Conversations and Visibility also keep the list current by showing who is gaining outside it: in UK beauty, The Ordinary ranks 33rd on aided awareness but eighth among the brands AI names first (survey to August 2026, AI answers to October 2026).

Questions about AI brand visibility
AI brand visibility is how often, and in what terms, a brand appears when AI assistants answer questions about its category. It includes whether the brand is named, how it is described and which sources the answer relies on.
Ask AI the questions your buyers ask, repeatedly and in a consistent way, and record which brands are named and how. In Brand Signal, the prompt set is built from your tracker's competitor set for each market and language, and the results are read next to the panel.
Most tools give a single score for how often a brand appears. Brand Signal reports Share of Visibility: your share of mentions against the competitors you already track. A good share depends on the category, so it is best read against your share of consideration in the panel.
You can ask it yourself, but one answer is one sample. The AI Brand Profile collects the attributes, tone and claims AI attaches to your brand across many prompts and engines.
SEO and GEO work on getting content ranked or cited. Visibility measures what AI says about the brand and compares it with what buyers think. It is a brand measure, not a content workflow, and it does not tell you how to rewrite pages.
Social listening tracks what people post. AI brand monitoring tracks what AI systems say: Visibility counts your AI brand mentions against your competitors' and shows how you are described. What people say in spoken media is covered by Conversations.
Today Visibility covers ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot and Google's AI Mode and AI Overviews as standard, and Perplexity and Claude can be added. Prompts run weekly or monthly, depending on what the read is for. Markets follow your Brand Signal setup, with prompts written in each market's language, so the answers are the ones buyers there would get.
Yes, as part of Brand Signal. You can start with Visibility for your brand and your competitors and add Perception later. The AI history stays in place and is read against the panel from the first wave.
